Having the privilege to attend the Gawad Kalinga Expo 2010 is a big blessing. The distinction of this event from the previous ones is that GK celebrates its first seven years and is now entering into a new phase which is the “Kalinga sa Bayan”. It simply tells us that we should not only focus within the GK sites but also this is the beginning of reaching out to the whole community so that together we can attain the GK vision of ending poverty in 2024.
Last October 8, 2010, I attended GK1MB at the University of Makati. Basically, the event was to gather the youths who are advocates of GK. The approach was lively, entertaining and very positive. On the first session: “Siga Ka Pinoy” the Teatrong Lambat and Filipiniana dance troupe of the College of Immaculate Concepcion portrayed the Filipino values that are essential through a stage play and they had a superb performance.
Session Two: “Lahing Pinoy, Lahing Bayani” emphasizes Gen2024. The call for faithful Filipinos who are willing give service to other people. Each of us can be our brother’s keeper. Poverty is not only looked as a disease but it can also be an avenue for us to show our heroism through care. Our identity as Gen2024:
